Career Services for Youth
Looking for information to help your youth get started in a positive
career direction? Information that will help them to develop their true
potential? We offer both individualized
career coaching for youth and workshops
for parents.
At Morgan Ebbett Career Services we offer career coaching specifically
designed for youth. Karae White, owner of Morgan Ebbett, started her career
as a teacher. She transitioned 15 years ago. In 2009 she won the Career
Development Award for Excellence and Inspirational Leadership. Karae (pronounced
car-A) is the Morgan Ebbett Youth Career Coach.
Youth of today are likely to have an average
of 7-9 career changes, not just jobs, in their lifetime. They will have
jobs that parents have never heard of. This makes career management skills
essential for young people.
- 70% of all new jobs created in Canada will require
some form of postsecondary education,
- 25% will require a university degree, and only
- 6% of new jobs will require less than a high
school education
(http://www.innovationstrategy.gc.ca 2004).
Individualized Career Coaching
for Youth
2 hour Youth Career Coaching Package
- Identify personal strengths
- Match personal strengths with career choices
- Understand educational requirements for career choices
- Discuss summer jobs and volunteer work that supports career choices
- Create a portfolio to record ideas, discoveries and resource
Here is what one parent said about a coaching session
I had with her 14 year old. "Thanks for your help Karae! Your
involvement allowed an element of independence for our daughter ( a good
first step in owning her own solutions and choices here ) while also allowing
my husband and I an element of control over the guidance she is receiving
and feedback on the coaching being given. Nice to not be in the dark considering
we will be paying the bills for whatever she decides to pursue! If my
daughter wants our financial support she will have to show us evidence
that she is approaching her career choice with an accountability. Your
coaching session will help her to clearly articulate her choices."
2009
From Nancy E. Hill's research paper 2009
"Twice as effective as the things parents did at school were the
efforts they made at home, apart from helping with homework, to support
schooling. Those included communicating their expectations for their children’s
achievement; discussing learning strategies; fostering career aspirations;
linking what children were learning in school, or were interested in learning,
to outside activities; and making plans for the future."
Additional Career Services for Youth:
- We write resumes and cover letters designed as a template that can
be built added to with each new volunteer and work experience
- We coach people to answer interview questions honestly while highlighting
