"In the absence of clearly-defined
goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia until ultimately
we become enslaved by it." Robert Heinlein
Proof is in the Pudding
You know that old saying the "proof is in the pudding" well
for some of us the proof is in the Success Circles. In six months the
participants of the Morgan Ebbett Entrepreneurial Success Circles set
personal and professional goals. They were all goals that Success Circle
participants wanted to meet and found value in accomplishing, so the goals
were as varied as the individual participants. Here is what 6 months of
goal setting in 2009 brought; (each of these goals was achieved within
one month of setting them unless otherwise stated).

~Completed a yearly budget
~Designed a yearly marketing plan and implemented the first initiative
~Developed a yearly business plan and tracked results

itself
~Boldly stated desire for new image and name and took the first step to
get business advice before moving blindly forward
~Researched a new service and was offered a job in the process
~Started tracking business data and noticed monthly trends, adjusted schedule
to be less hectic but make same amount of money
~Documented how time was spent during the day and tweaked business plan
as a result
~Finished renovations on business space to enhance a new service

Some of the things participants learned
while setting goals
~Realized the goal was not reached because there was no plan in place
to support it happening
~Realized the goal was not reached because it took more time than initially
thought
~Realized the goal was not reached because it needed to be broken down
into smaller steps
~Learned that just because the goal sounds good doesn't ensure its achievement
and sometimes plans need to be adapted
~Decided the goal was too big so, instead of giving up, broke the task
into smaller more manageable pieces
