Morgan Ebbett Success Circles

"In the absence of clearly-defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia until ultimately we become enslaved by it." Robert Heinlein

Proof is in the Pudding

You know that old saying the "proof is in the pudding" well for some of us the proof is in the Success Circles. In six months the participants of the Morgan Ebbett Entrepreneurial Success Circles set personal and professional goals. They were all goals that Success Circle participants wanted to meet and found value in accomplishing, so the goals were as varied as the individual participants. Here is what 6 months of goal setting in 2009 brought; (each of these goals was achieved within one month of setting them unless otherwise stated).

Business Management Goals
~Phoned the competition and gained a partner
~Completed a yearly budget
~Designed a yearly marketing plan and implemented the first initiative
~Developed a yearly business plan and tracked results
~Found a mentor to help learn the new business
~Researched a new idea and is ready for the new opportunity if it presents itself
~Boldly stated desire for new image and name and took the first step to get business advice before moving blindly forward
~Researched a new service and was offered a job in the process
~Started tracking business data and noticed monthly trends, adjusted schedule to be less hectic but make same amount of money
~Documented how time was spent during the day and tweaked business plan as a result
~Finished renovations on business space to enhance a new service

Marketing and Advertising Goals
~On a weekly basis, tried new strategy and gained 4 leads
~Developed 4 marketing strategies, tracked to determine which one or combination of strategies will be effective
~Completed 2 new marketing strategies for delivery to new audiences, results will be evident in 3 months
~Developed a future client survey to determine marketing strategy
~Wrote 2 "expert" articles, published on the web and gained hits from all over the world, increased SEO
~Created an information package for a new service
~Implemented SEO suggestions and increased site traffic by more than double, increased Comox Valley ranking from not registering to number 1 in listings
~Followed up and obtained testimonial for advertising

Personal Goals
~Tried a new personal activity that was so successful it required a new order of business cards; unexpected professional gains
~Planted half of a flower garden
~Walking went from once a week to 6 days a week with the help of a friend and a dog
~Took a weekend off and did not once think about the business

Show Me The Money Goals
Increase in Sales and/or Customers

~Completed brochure for new service, distributed, and gained 15 participants
~Increased sales by 5% - 30% each month for 3 months during a "recession"
~Successfully filled a new workshop
~Added a training associate to the team
~Doubled number of participants within 2 months
~Completed follow up phone calls to existing clients and generated 5 new appointments
~Visited 5 prospects and gained 4 new distributors
~Wrote minimum of 1 article per month for 5 months for local publications, each article resulted in clients
~Handed out samples of products and gained a new client
~Added 2 great new people to group ensuring money and ideas
~Grew contact list from 0 to 85 email addresses in one month
~In one month gained 8 new clients and 2 more workshop clients through article and follow up calls
~Averaged one new client per day for 25 days

Some of the things participants learned while setting goals
~Realized the goal was not reached because there was no plan in place to support it happening
~Realized the goal was not reached because it took more time than initially thought
~Realized the goal was not reached because it needed to be broken down into smaller steps
~Learned that just because the goal sounds good doesn't ensure its achievement and sometimes plans need to be adapted
~Decided the goal was too big so, instead of giving up, broke the task into smaller more manageable pieces
