“N” is for Networking

Talk with people (not computers) and ask for their advice. Some people will have insider information that will be helpful in making a career leap or may know of a job lead that is not advertised.

Here’s the secret to growing your network: Help other people. Make it your goal to help people you meet naturally during your day. Be intentional. Look for ways to help co-workers, neighbours, and people in your circle. The reason this works is the rule of reciprocity, which says that if you help people, they will be favorably inclined to return the favor in the future. By helping others you are making deposits in accounts that you can withdraw from later. (Source unknown)

 

Career Builder Challenge - Make a list of your network. Contact them on a regular basis. Make the contact genuine. Create a second list of people you would like to add to your network and then find an opportunity to meet them and introduce yourself.
